For Women In Need, A Faith-Based Helping Hand
Guiding Light Ministries was founded
by Ellen Allred in 2004 as an outgrowth of her Gideon Auxiliary Jail Ministry which she began in 2001.
How we help:
- For women just coming out of prison/jail, we offer
a home that is safe, clean, drug free, and structured, therefore enabling them to focus on rebuilding their lives. The faith-based
programming engenders positive self-esteem, healthy boundaries, an opportunity for spiritual growth, and a real hope for the
future.
- For those incarcerated
in our local jails, we provide bibles and other literature as well as a weekly Bible Study.
- For those incarcerated in our state prisons, we
offer bibles and other Christian literature as well as regular correspondence. The women we write have no one on the outside
to care about them, to remember them on their birthday or at Christmas, no one to encourage them and offer hope.
- For those graduating from our home
to their own, we help them find affordable housing, furnishings and household items, and continued support/participation
in our programs/meetings for as long as they need it.
Our mission:
To
give female ex-offenders the opportunity to build lives that are free of drug, physical, emotional, and sexual abuse and rebuild
healthy relationships with their families whenever possible.
