Our People
Terry My experience at Guiding Light was a wonderful
spiritual and educational one for me. It gave me a fresh start – a new beginning for my life. Ellen was and continues
to be a very loving, caring, and helpful person. She has become almost like a mother to me and I can still count on her being
there for me even though I am no longer a resident. I thank her and all those involved with this ministry for taking a chance
on me and teaching me so much.
*Terry made the transition back into society last summer and is doing quite well.
She had lost her children to DSS, but will soon regain full custody. She is a success story.
Sharon I am so thankful that Ms. Ellen and her
ministry decided to take a chance on me. Lord knows I needed help. So many of us are not given a second chance. Society
as a whole looks down on us which in turn just keeps us down. Women, especially single women, have a really hard time finding
help in the way of housing. We need more people like Ms. Ellen.
Joyce My stay here at Guiding Light Ministries
Transition house is a real blessing. The Christian environment has strengthened my faith in God. I’m new to this area
and get lonely and depressed sometimes, but that’s when I turn it over to God. Ms. Allred and the ladies here have
become my family and I’m so grateful to have them in my life. Ms. Allred is always willing to go the extra mile to
help wherever she can or refer me to someone who can. She’s a blessing from above making it possible for ex-offenders
like me to live life on legal and productive terms. Being in a loving Christian home is totally awesome. Here we look at
the likenesses instead of the differences in each other. We have learned that we made mistakes, but are NOT mistakes. Today
I stand high and proud of my life remaining drug free and growing with God. Women out there like myself – please keep
hope alive and your head held high for there is help for you also.
Sylvia Living here
at Guiding Light has been a real blessing for me. I didn’t come here from mans prison, but a prison I made for myself
using drugs. When I first walked through the door to this house I felt the presence of Christ Jesus. You see, Ms. Ellen
works through Christ and He works through her. I feel like I’m someone and I have good self-esteem. Everyone here
is like family and we pretty much have the same goals. One of them is to give back what has been so freely given to us.
The ministry works hard to make sure all our needs are met. They refuse to allow us to give up and are always there for
us. Thank God for Ms. Ellen and the others for taking a chance on us all.
